Dawson County grew from 4,744 residents in the 1980 census to 9,429 in 1990, a 98.8 percent increase. The Census Bureau reported estimate of 14,851 for 1998 is up 5,422 people or 57.5 percent since the 1990 census.

The greatest age group concentration, according to the latest statistics, is 25-44. Children of school age make up about 20 percent of Dawson County’s population.
