The Dawson County Leadership Program is designed to educate and stimulate persons who have shown potential as community leaders and give them information about avenues for service.
Program Goals
·Identify and inspire potential community leaders who are willing to become involved.
·Introduce these potential leaders to the major community issues and the resulting complexities of possible solutions.
·Provide opportunity for participants to meet and interact with current community leaders
·Investigate and discuss the ethics of leadership.
·Provide exercises to expand leadership skills.
·Encourage and enhance exchange of personal views and opinions of topics covered in the leadership program.
The Process
Potential candidates are nominated by the planning committee, past graduates of the program and other community leaders.
Nominees receive an application which includes a questionnaire about their interests regarding leadership as well as their vision for the community.
The leadership planning committee reviews all applications and selects a class of approximately 25 students.
Commitment
Moderate tuition helps to cover costs of the program.
Participants must arrange their schedules and commit to attendance at an initial overnight retreat, 8 classroom sessions and/or a field trip, and the graduation ceremony. All program dates will be provided ahead of time.
Participants may have short to moderate homework assignments that are completed outside of class time.Assignments may include activities such as attendance at a public meeting and/or a book review.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Sponsorships packages are available at several levels.
