Dawson Forest Wildlife Management Area offers primitive car camping or backpacking within its 25,000 acres, but the spectacular scenery and seclusion make a wilderness camping trip well worth the hike and lack of creature comforts. Campsites are easy to find anywhere in WMA, along the secluded beaches of the Amicalola or Etowah Rivers, high on a ridge in the remote Wildcat Tract or nestled in a “cove”—the Appalachian term for the hollows and narrow mountain valleys prevalent in the region.
